Home Remedy for Dry Hair

Hair becomes dry, lack luster appearance and looks brittle when hair shafts fail to retain or absorb moisture. Using harsh hair products, frequent use of hair dye or heated styling tools, excessive hair washing and chlorinated water exposure.  There are home remedies to resolve dry hair and to restore its shine and health.

Some top home remedies for dry hair

1.Olive Oil: This is rich with vitamin E and its antioxidant helps in healing by sealing your hair cuticle with moisture. Using warm olive oil helps in restoring moisture, shine and in strengthening hair. Put enough oil in a bowl and slightly warm it. Massage your scalp using this oil for 10 minutes and wrap a warm towel. Leave it for 30 minutes and shampoo your hair. Repeat this once a week. In fact, you may use corn oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, almond or coconut oil.

2. Eggs:  Eggs are a good source of lecithin and protein. It helps in strengthening, restoring texture and in repairing and strengthening lifeless hair. Whip egg in lukewarm water and apply to damp hair. Wash with cool water after 15 minutes. Repeat this twice a week. You can also mix olive oil, honey to eggs.

3. Bananas:  The moisture and potassium is in high content. This improves the hair elasticity and prevents split ends. Mash one overripe banana and apply it from the roots and leave it for 60 minutes. Do it once a week and rinse with lukewarm water. Mix almond oil or honey with the banana paste and allow 30 minutes before washing with lukewarm water.

4. Honey:  Honey traps moisture, so apply honey half cup to damp hair and massage. Rinse using lukewarm water after 30 minutes. You may add olive oil to honey to make your hair shiny, soft and well nourished.

5.  Aloe Vera: The combination of amino acids, minerals and vitamins in aloe vera is beneficial for damaged and dry hair. Mix aloe vera gel with castor oil, basil powder and powdered fenugreek. Mix the ingredients, apply to your scalp and hair and leave it n overnight. Wash next day with a mild shampoo. Repeat once a week. Using it regularly gives a soft texture and shine to your dry hair.

6. Beer: This is a hair conditioner. Beer has protein to help damaged hair cuticles and it makes your hair smooth and shiny, besides nourishing your hair follicles. Spray beer to your hair in a small amount and shampoo after sometime. Permit your hair to dry on its own to ensure shiny and smooth look. The beer smell vanishes when it dries naturally.

7. Avocado: Avocado is highly beneficial as it has protein, vitamin A and E and other minerals. It adds moisture and strengthens your hair. Mash a peeled avocado in jojoba oil and wheat-germ oil one teaspoon each and apply on washed hair. Leave it covered for 30 minutes and shampoo using lukewarm water. Repeat it twice a week. You can mix olive oil to avocado as well.

In addition, eating a healthy diet and using quality hair care products prevents it from drying out.
